lightapp Sponsors New Technology Zone at BETT 2008 – Demonstrating how hosted computing enables schools to give all students computer access, while decreasing ICT budgets
Stand No: National Hall Gallery, Stand W23
New Technologies Zone (National Hall Gallery): Wednesday 9th January 2008
London, 26 November 2007 – lightapp Ltd, a leading provider of ‘anytime, anywhere’, hosted computing, will be making its premier appearance at BETT this year; sponsoring the New Technology Zone on Wednesday the 9th of January. Accompanied by Greensward College and John Bramston School in the New Technology Zone, visitors will see the students using office applications, email and Internet. Remarkably, looking below the desks, they won’t find a computer at all.
With lightapp’s innovative solution, there’s no need for PCs. The computer processing and software are hosted and managed remotely, with each user accessing their personalised workspace from any broadband connected screen. Low functionality, inexpensive and environmentally friendly devices are used to connect the screens to broadband.
Cost savings come from dramatic reductions in hardware costs, 96% electricity savings, and virtually eliminating ICT maintenance. Specifically designed for ease of administration, all software upgrades, security, backup and storage are managed at lightapp’s state-of-the-art data centres.
It’s not just about cheaper, easier and greener computing, but also better computing. With lightapp’s ‘anytime, anywhere’ solution, workspaces can be accessed from any broadband connection - in and out of school. Computing speeds and reliability are also improved, while offering an environmentally friendly solution that reduces waste from hardware production, operation and disposal.
Launched in July 2006, ligthapp is a rising star in ICT for the public sector, already supporting hundreds of individuals and organisations.
Joshua Cooper, CEO of lightapp said; “With the advent or broadband, access to computing is no longer restricted to those who can afford a costly PC. lightapp is challenging the way that people think about computing – enabling massive economies of scale by using on-site, inexpensive and low functionality equipment to merely communicate with the computing ‘brains’, that are hosted and managed remotely”.
Hourly Demonstrations & Free Subscriptions
A demonstration of lightapp will take place in the New Technology Zone on Wednesday, 9 January at 11am. Subsequent demonstrations will take place on the hour, every hour, for the rest of the day. Each school will receive 10 FREE, 6 month subscriptions of lightapp on request.
Local Authority Lounge Presentation
Joshua Cooper, will also be presenting to the Local Authority Lounge at 15.30 on Wednesday the 9th of January; using case studies to talk about ‘Computing without PCs - enabling more workstations within budget’.
